Classic World rewards preparation more than it rewards reflexes. The launch build is slow, manual and designed around the original MapleStory loop, so a few decisions made before you log in matter more than any trick you pick up on day one. These are the practical habits worth building, grouped by when you will need them.
Before launch day opens
Grand Launch is the free window, and both the Nexon Launcher and Steam route exist — so pick yours early and have it ready.
Prepare the launcher or the Steam install now
Launcher players need the official Nexon Launcher installed and a signed-in Nexon account; the Classic World toggle only appears when the window opens. Steam players need MapleStory (App 216150) installed and fully updated first, because Classic World is bundled with the base game. Doing this on launch day means spending your evening on a download bar instead of on Maple Island. Full steps live in Getting Started.
Link your Nexon account before the window opens
Steam players should link the Nexon account ahead of time. Nexon recommends the web route — sign in on the official site, open Account Settings, and link the Steam profile from the browser — but the in-game route also works once you launch MapleStory through Steam. Linking early removes one failure point from a day that already has queues.
Leave the base MapleStory install alone
Do not delete, verify or "clean up" the base install to make room for Classic World. The Steam client depends on it being present, and a mid-launch re-download of the bundled files is the slowest possible recovery.
Your first levels
Community-compiled launch data describes first job advancement at level 10, manual AP allocation and a quest-and-potion economy — all of which reward thinking before clicking.
Decide your job path before level 10
You start as a Beginner and choose a first-job path — Warrior, Magician, Bowman or Thief — at level 10. Each path later opens into the branches listed in Classes. Knowing which one you want before the advancement quest appears keeps you from building toward a stat line you cannot use.
Spend AP deliberately
Ability points are allocated by hand in the launch-era design, and nothing in our sources promises a free reset. Put points where your chosen path actually needs them rather than spreading them for safety. If you are unsure, the Leveling Guide walks through the early bracket with that constraint in mind.
Keep potions cheap in the early game
The early economy is tight by design. Buy what you need from NPC shops and quest rewards rather than paying a premium for a stack somebody else is flipping, and do not stockpile hundreds of potions you cannot afford to replace. Meso decisions in the first hours compound later; Money & Market covers the economy side in more detail.
Read the quest text
In the launch-era flow, quests are not just experience deliveries — they gate travel, unlock access and point you toward the next area. Community-compiled launch data lists start on Maple Island, first advancement, then the wider world, and the transition is quest-driven. Skimming and clicking "accept" is how new players end up stuck without a route forward.
Playing the launch build well
Treat the first 35 levels as the game, not the tutorial
Community-compiled data puts the early bracket at roughly the first 35 levels, with the level cap at 100 and no 3rd job in the launch build. That means the part most modern players call the tutorial is the actual experience here. Play it as the destination rather than hurrying through it.
Play with people
The launch build is small and slow enough that parties, guilds and shared hunting grounds carry the experience. Finding a regular group early makes the pace feel intentional instead of empty, and it is the cheapest way to learn the maps.
Do not trust unofficial price lists
This site publishes no Founder's Access prices or package contents, because the official FAQ does not list them. See official Nexon page: Founder's Access pre-launch sales for what is actually being sold. Any other number is unverified, however confidently it is presented.
Do not trust tier lists or damage tables
No community tier list for the launch build has an official source behind it, and our sources contain no skill numbers, damage formulas or DPS tables at all. Community-compiled class data — the five starting states and the advancement branches — is the useful part; ranking charts are not.
